shadow,<br \/>\nout of the corner of my eye<br \/>\nI saw your feathers all ruffled,<br \/>\nanticipating the sky&#8230;.<br \/>\nYou&#8217;ve got no reason to stay,<br \/>\nday by day your impatience to explain<br \/>\nhow he felt at her passing<br \/>\nthe very day on which<br \/>\nthe most perfect bloom was full-blown;<br \/>\ntender cruelty that she&#8217;d<br \/>\nnever share in this moment,<br \/>\nnaming the rose.<\/p>\n<p>He takes her ashes to the seed-bed<br \/>\nand works them in gently<br \/>\nso that her soul will rise like sap<br \/>\nin the plants as they grow<br \/>\nand then whispering her name<br \/>\nwrites it out on the label,<br \/>\nnaming the rose,<br \/>\nnaming the rose<br \/>\nfor the sake of her sweetness.<\/p>\n<p>Naming the rose<br \/>\nin the memory of sweetness.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"3\"><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>How Far I Fell<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(Here&#8217;s the old man and his not-so-childlike bride;<br \/>\nhere&#8217;s the humbling of us all, I&#8217;ll not let you go.<\/p>\n<p>I know you think that I&#8217;m a bit of a creep<br \/>\nbut I will grow on you in stages<br \/>\nuntil you recognise that we&#8217;re both in so deep<br \/>\nthat it&#8217;s contagious.<\/p>\n<p>And if you love somebody bad enough<br \/>\nI believe in the end they will offer you in their lives.<\/p>\n<p>I keep the website stocked with pictures of you;<br \/>\nI
